Requirements
Must have:
- We require a bachelors or associate degree in Environmental Health and Safety, or at least 3+ years of experience in a safety-focused role, ideally within construction. - We need strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across diverse teams and organizational levels. - We look for proven presentation and facilitation skills, including the ability to deliver effective job safety meetings and training. - We require solid computer proficiency, along with experience using safety software. - We expect a working knowledge of workers compensation regulations and federal/state OSHA and WISHA requirements. - We need the ability to identify, address, and resolve jobsite safety hazards, including experience with claims management and accurate documentation. - We require technical knowledge of construction and safety topics such as asbestos, lead, hazardous waste operations, respiratory protection, cranes, lifts, rigging, fall protection, confined space, scaffolding, trenching, electrical safety, and related areas. - We look for excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently. - We expect the ability to collect, analyze, and apply data to improve site safety plans and decisions. - We require completion of OSHA 30-hour training, current CPR/AED/first aid certification, and the Safety Trained Supervisor Construction (STSC) course or an equivalent program. - We value a team-oriented mindset, the ability to work with people from varied backgrounds, and a proactive approach to site needs. - We expect a commitment to continuous learning and technical development.
Responsibilities:
- We support the successful rollout of our Environmental Health and Safety program and site-specific safety plan across one large project or several smaller jobsites. - We provide technical guidance to our craftworkers in developing pre-task plans, including hazard identification and mitigation strategies. - We review subcontractor safety documentation before mobilization to ensure all required materials are complete and aligned with the hazards of their scope of work. - We observe site activities daily, identify unsafe conditions, and intervene or escalate concerns as needed. - We manage safety administration to support compliance with applicable local laws, codes, and ordinances. - We maintain organized safety records, archives, and documentation for each project. - We coach, mentor, and train Safety Representatives as assigned. - We collaborate with the Safety Director, Project Superintendent, and project team to create site-specific safety and crisis management plans tailored to jobsite conditions. - We ensure safety boards, equipment, and site-specific materials are available on site. - We review subcontractor safety plans for completeness and relevance, and verify implementation in the field. - We develop and deliver new hire orientations for employees, subcontractors, vendors, and site visitors, with emphasis on safety culture and site expectations. - We conduct frequent safety audits throughout the day and document both positive observations and corrective actions in our safety software. - We correct safety violations promptly and encourage the broader team to document audits properly. - We support regulatory audits by contacting leadership immediately, coordinating the opening conference, and documenting the process. - We assist project foremen with pre-task plans and job hazard analyses. - We organize and facilitate technical safety training to support field operations. - We clarify safety requirements, provide practical solutions to jobsite challenges, and review safety trend data to recommend improvements. - We respond to injuries and property damage incidents by ensuring prompt care, notifying leadership, and managing the investigation process. - We gather witness statements, photos, environmental details, and other evidence during incident investigations. - We lead incident analysis with the project team and help implement training, policy, or procedural changes based on findings. - We support claims management by staying connected with injured employees and coordinating light-duty assignments when appropriate. - We lead morning safety huddles, including hazard review and ergonomic warm-ups, in a collaborative and engaging manner. - We reinforce safe behavior, recognize positive performance, and address unsafe conduct quickly and professionally. - We escalate jobsite risks or personnel concerns promptly and seek management support when needed. - We identify high-risk behaviors and work with leadership to apply progressive accountability measures when necessary. - We partner with owners and subcontractors safety professionals to promote coordinated and safe execution of the work. - We build and maintain an accessible system for all safety-related records, training documentation, and compliance materials. - We ensure required equipment training is completed and documented, and we issue training cards as needed. - We keep jobsite postings compliant with applicable rules and regulations. - We document daily site conditions, completed pre-task plans, and job hazard analyses. - We review subcontractor safety submissions for compliance with company, owner, and regulatory requirements.
